Sigri Aurora Stokke Nilsen to lead the Centre for the Ocean and the Arctic until a new director is appointed
Sigri Stokke Nilsen has been appointed acting director of the Centre for the Ocean and the Arctic and is now stepping into the role with overall responsibility for the Centre’s operations and development until a new director is in place.
Sigri has a background as a diplomat and previously worked at the Norwegian Embassy in Washington, D.C., before returning to Alta to contribute to the development of sustainable coexistence at sea. She holds a degree from the London School of Economics and has been a senior advisor at the Centre since 2022. In addition to leading projects related to marine industrial parks, she has played a key role in several initiatives on marine spatial planning, sustainable ocean governance, and how the ocean industries are responding to the new security policy landscape.
– I look forward to continuing the important work the Centre does in collaboration with our partners. Leading up to the summer, our main priorities are the Blått kompass conference and preparations for our participation at the UN Ocean Conference in Nice. We also look forward to delivering the “desk pilot” on offshore multi-use to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries (NFD), says Sigri.
